Clearing vegetation from the edge of the lake.
Deep water in lake. Slope on the bank leading down to the lake. Slippery underfoot when ground is wet.
Slipping into the water.
Drowning.
Wear suitable footwear. Do not work alone near the edge of the lake. Ensure lifebuoy is available.
Clearing vegetation
Sharp or dangerous tools.
Prickly plants.
Fallen trees or branches.
Insect bites/stings
Injury to volunteers or other park users e.g. cuts.
Provide appropriate training for use and storage of tools.
Maintain a safe distance from others when hacking at the weeds with a sickle or other tool.
Employ a look-out if necessary.
Provide safety clothing e.g. goggles, gloves and high-vis jackets.
Ensure a first-aid kit is available.
Lifting and removing fallen or felled trees
Attempting to move too much weight.
Muscle strains
Crushed limbs.
Do not attempt to lift anything that may be beyond your capabilities.
If appropriate, seek additional assistance
Felling trees and branches
Felled wood may fall suddenly or in an unexpected direction.
Being hit or crushed by fallen odjects.
Employ a look-out to ensure that the area is kept clear.
Give a warning signal when any piece is about to fall.
Using a cordless power tool
Water entering the power tool.
Electric shock
Do not use power tools in wet conditions.
Accidental starting of power tool .
Serious personal injury
Disconnect the battery pack before making any adjustments, changing accessories or storing.
Cutter blades

Before each use, carry out a basic visual check of the equipment, to check it’s condition and it’s safe to use. Check the work area for anything which could be a hazard, before the tool is started. Ensure that you have read and understood the manufacturer’s instruction manual. Please see the Makita Cordless Hedgetrimmer manual attached below.
Keep bystanders away while operating a power tool. Always wear eye protection, stout gloves and sturdy shoes with anti skid soles. Do not over reach and keep a proper footing and balance at all times. Do not wear loose clothing. And never grasp
the cutter by the blade!!
