Friends of Parklands (Upminster)
Parklands is a delightful public open space, situated at the Corbets Tey end of Upminster, in the London Borough of Havering. The grassed and wooded areas are an ideal spot for a gentle stroll, walking the dog, or spending the day fishing on the banks of the lake.
The bridge which crosses the lake is a grade 11 listed historic structure, built in the late
18th century. There are several benches for those who just wish to sit and admire the views. The site is accessible from Corbets Tey Road (the 370 bus stops nearby), the western end of Parkland Avenue or, by car, from Park Farm Road.
Friends of Parklands:
Friends of Parklands was formed in 2012, at a time when much of the site had become overgrown and plans to restore the bridge appeared to be stalling. Monthly Working Parties were established and, thanks to the efforts of volunteers (with the support of Havering Council), the overgrown areas are now under control. Restoration of the bridge was completed in 2016
Working Parties:
Friends of Parklands still organise working parties, with the aim of preserving and enhancing the natural environment.
The working parties meet at 10am, for a couple of hours, on the second Wednesday of every month. All tools will be provided.
Volunteers should familiarise themselves with the Health and Safety/Risk Assessment page.
Public Liability cover is provided for all of our volunteers (See Health and Safety page).
